Monitoring

🧩 Principles of Monitoring

The goal is improvement, not blame

Monitoring performed by game testers is different from emotional criticism
It is a constructive process to improve the game, and strong language or insults are unnecessary

Testers must organize the reasons behind what users feel are “good points” and “concerns,” and communicate them in objective terms

Objective feedback is required

Levels of objectivity
PersonalOpinion based solely on one’s own perspective
Somewhat ObjectiveClose friends are likely to agree
ObjectiveRespected seniors or supervisors may agree
More ObjectivePeople with different values may agree
Most ObjectivePeople from different cultures (e.g., foreigners) may agree

Handling Monitoring Feedback

Game testers are the first users in the world to play the game
No game has succeeded by ignoring user feedback

If testers find themselves immersed in playing during testing,
the game is almost guaranteed to be a hit even before release (and the opposite is also true)
